We divide damp proofing into several main sections:

1. Rising Damp which is a result of ground water infiltrating (by capillary action) foundations and lower parts of the wall.

RISING DAMP ISSUE- damaged paint and plaster just above the skirting, damp marks on the wall, expected moisture content over 20%)
RISING DAMP ISSUE- soaking wet wall at low level which gradually decreases to dry wall at 1.2-1.5m heigh- this clearly indicates water infiltrat
RISING DAMP ISSUE- wet marks clearly visible on the wall, discoloration and moisture content over 12-14% on water marks and below 5% on dry area

BASEMENT RISING DAMP ISSUE- very damp marks on the wall, expected moisture content over 30%

2. Penetrating Damp is mostly caused by leaks into the property through walls, roofs around the windows or doors and around pipe holes. Penetrating damp may also be caused by faulty guttering, defective plumbing (heating, H&C water or drainage), missing or damaged pointing or blocked ventilation weep holes.
